Season 2016 is over

The trips for 2016 are done, now all that remains is the pickup of the boat and then the renovation starts. More picutres and posts will come about that later, now I'll start working on pre-planning and pre-booking for 2017. Stay posted for more info.

Gallery

Finally made a new account on Instagram that is dedicated for this project, I also managed to find a widget that displays the images from Instagram here on the blog as a picture gallery. The name of the Instagram account is of course "geeksatsea" and I'll upload something there now and then. All the images that I upload to Instagram will also show up here on the blog within 24 hours.
Feel free to follow us :)

Rock 20

We ended up getting this for two reasons, it's good for beginners (easy to sail) and it's cheap (it's a "fixer upper"). Basic details about the boat: 7.30m long, 2.25m wide, depalcement 1400kg, masts' height 9.2m, depth 1.2m, built 1970.
There's enough room for 4 persons to sleep in it and loads of storage here and there. There's no fridge nor a toilet and most of the interior has to be remade. Already started with the electronics however that has now for some reason broke down, getting replacement parts on warranty tho. The list of things that needs to be done and modifications that we'll make is long, it's close to a mile-long so I'm not going to go in to that at this point. We'll make a list when we start working on the boat, but it needs to come out of the water first.

Anyhow, the handling of the boat is good, the sailing properties are good too even tho tacking would be way better if our sails would be newer. In good winds (+6m/s) we can get up to 4-5knots and so far our top speed has been 7.5knots, however that was in pretty extreme winds. Personally I wouldn't go out if the gusts go over 14m/s. The boat rocks n rolls in larger waves, even tho it's not that bad, it steers well and it doesn't even feel like there would be any risk what so ever of tipping over.

First pictures

Sorry for the delay, had some technical issues with the image hosting that I used to have earlier so I kinda had to get something else up and running. Anyhow, we went to take some pictures of the boat and to make plans of the interior, don't have that many pictures at the moment but will upload more shortly. We have taken pretty much literally all the interior stuff home with us so that we can refurbish it in "advance".
As can be seen on the last picture, there's some basic stuff that needs to be fixed too...
There's enough room for four persons to sleep however there's not toilet on board, at least not yet. Pretty much all interior related will be remade.

Almost forgot, it's a Rock 20.

It has begun

Step 1: Buy a boat, tinker with it and put it in to top top shape.

We found a really reasonably priced sailboat that should be rather good for beginners so we ended up buying it. There's a few things that needs to be fixed on the boat still but that's ok, it takes a month or two anyhow for the ice to melt so we have time. We are going to check out the boat again in a few weeks and at that point we will be taking more pictures so that we can also upload them here. For those of you who want to know what boat it is, well, it's a .....
